HOME-SCHOOL WRITING CONNECTIONS
*Make a new piece of writing at home and bring it into school to share
* Find some writing in your house that makes you think, “I could write a text like this!” Example: a recipe, captions in a photo album, a sign on your brother’s bedroom door, a how to make story, list on the refrigerator
* Share a favorite book with someone at home. Notice together some things the author did that you could try in your writing-using sound words, repetitive text, color words, descriptive words, etc.
* Share the text you’ve made in school with someone at home and talk to them about the topic, so that you can come to school the next day and add more information to your writing
*Go over your writing with someone at home, and see if you can add on to it. Did you leave out an important part? Did you forget to show that your baby brother and your dog sat beside you in the car? Add them to the picture. Did you forget to describe your dog? Add that to the text.
* Reread your writing with someone at home and check that you spelled the words on the word wall correctly. Also check the spelling of spelling words we have already had…I am SURE you spelled those correctly!
*Find a few lovely, tricky words from your writing with someone at home and try them writing again. Say them really slowly, listening to the sounds, and record all the sounds you hear. Look at your spelling of the word and think, “Have I seen a word like this before?”
