The county is giving citizens an opportunity to complete an online survey about the 2013-2014 county budget.
There is a section on the survey about school funding that is critical for all GCS employees and parents to fill out. The survey offers citizens an opportunity to let the county know they support their schools.
On the survey, you are asked to select a statement or statements that reflect your feelings about school funding. The first four choices (you may select all four) provide additional funding for our schools – the fifth choice reduces school funding.
Gaston County Schools is underfunded – our school system ranks 112 out of 115 school districts in North Carolina in funding. In the last few years, our schools have been cut close to 30 million dollars in state and federal funds and 500 positions. Our schools have serious safety and school improvement needs that we cannot address without additional funds.
We hope you will help your child’s school by taking a few minutes to fill out the survey and let the county know you support having strong schools in this community. Strong schools are the key to an improved economy and new businesses moving to Gaston County and new jobs.
We are most appreciative of the opportunity to comment on the county budget and we encourage our parents and employees to complete the survey.
