Gaston County students are not required to bring any supplies with them to school in order to access our educational programs.  If you would like to purchase personal supplies for your child, this list may act as an optional guide.  While the following items are not requirements, donations by parents, businesses, civic organizations, or faith-based organizations are greatly appreciated.

Parents and Students,

Welcome to Springfield Elementary School!  Your child will be entering a school where children come first.  My name is Debbie Brandon, and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher.  I pledge to teach, encourage, and love your child as we get to know each other through the year.  We look forward to a very exciting time of learning, sharing, and fun.  Listed below are some items you can provide for your child and the classroom:

  • book bag--no wheels
  •  change of clothes to leave at school
  • bath towel--no mats, beach towels, or blankets
  • baby wipes
  • Ziploc freezer bags (girls-gallon, boys-quart size) double zipper kind--no quick zip
  • Kleenex
  • hand sanitizer
  • glue sticks

Some things you can do to help your child be ready for school are:

1.     Read with your child daily.  Talk about stories you have read.

2.     Have your child practice using pencils and crayons by writing his/her name and coloring pictures.

3.     Cut with scissors and use glue sticks.

4.     Introduce the alphabet (capital and lower case), count things up to 30, and talk about colors and read color words.

These suggestions are meant as an introduction.  It is not necessary to push your child to know all these things before school starts.

I am excited your child has been assigned to my class and look forward to meeting you.  Thanks in advance for your help with supplies!

Sincerely,

D. Brandon
