Athletics and Extracurricular Activities
-
Middle school sports and high school sports in Gaston County are a source of great community pride. It is a pleasure to see our student-athletes excelling in the classroom and on the field and court in a competitive and safe environment.
To ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, and others involved with sports, Gaston County Schools will follow coronavirus guidance and recommendations provided by the N.C. High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) as well as the N.C. Department of Public Instruction, Gaston County Department for Health and Human Services, and CaroMont Health.
In preparation for the fall sports season, our schools have secured cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment. Several documents including procedures, protocols, and waiver forms have been created to provide information about safety, cleaning measures, etc. There are a number of requirements for resuming athletic and co-curricular activities, including daily temperature checks and symptom screenings of all student-athletes, band members, cheerleaders, etc. prior to allowing them to begin a workout or practice.
On July 15, the NCHSAA announced the delay of the fall sports season until September 1. High school workouts/practices in Gaston County have been delayed until August 10.

Extracurricular activities/field trips
To ensure the health and safety of students and staff, school field trips have been suspended until further notice. On-campus extracurricular activities may be conducted on a limited basis and only when social distancing and other safety requirements can be met.
