• The Gaston County Schools 2015 School Nutrition Banquet was held Thursday, May 14, at the Gastonia Conference Center.
     
    The school nutrition department recognized 10 employees who will be retiring at the end of the school year. Those employees are Viola Brandon, William Huffman, Cecelia Lynn Jones, Kathy Mauney, Mary Mullis, Denise Shuford, Lenore Smith, Debra Townsend, Wanda Whitaker and Jane Williams.
     
    Several other employees received "Years of Service" awards: Deborah Angus and Pauline Dockery, 25 years; Ann Dameron, 30 years; and Regina Littlejohn and Wanda Whitaker, 35 years.
     
    Also recognized were Peggy Banner, Donna Conner, Angela Patterson and Valerie Walker, who completed training to be certified as managers.
     
    Finally, the following schools were recognized for having outstanding A+ sanitation scores: Belmont Central, 99.7; John Chavis Middle, 99.5; Cherryville High, 99.7; East Gaston, 99.6; Forest Heights Elementary, 99.5; Grier Middle, 100; Lowell Elementary, 99.6; Page Primary, 99.7; New Hope Elementary, 99.5; Pinewood Elementary, 99.5; Rankin Elementary, 100; Robinson Elementary, 99.8; South Point High, 99.7; Stuart W. Cramer High, 99.7; and W.A. Bess Elementary, 99.8.
