• The Gaston County Education Foundation presented more than $50,000 of grants to teachers in Gaston County Schools during its annual award reception, held June 3 at Hawks Nest Intermediate School. The foundation awarded a total of 47 grants to individual teachers as well as teacher groups, which were eligible for grants up to $2,000. 
    The grants will fund creative lessons, programs and materials for students in elementary, middle and high schools across the district during the 2015-2016 school year. Projects earning funding included requests for technology tools and books, innovative math, art and history lessons, even the creation of a school garden.     Since 1992, The Gaston County Education Foundation has provided more than $850,000 in grants and scholarships to benefit teachers and students in Gaston County Schools.
