For the 2026–2027 academic year, Gaston County Schools is offering 17 magnet schools and academies for students. Families are encouraged to explore School Choice program options by visiting https://www.gaston.k12.nc.us/academics/magent-schools-and-academy-programs. Applications for Choice and Magnet School programs will be accepted from January 12 through March 6, 2026, with the lottery scheduled for April 2, 2026. Submit your online application here.

The Board of Education has approved the 2026-2027 school calendar. The calendar was adopted during the board meeting on December 15. You may view and print the calendar using the calendar link on this page.

The annual "Are You Smarter Than a Gaston County Fifth Grader?" competition is Thursday, February 5 at 6:00 p.m. at Stuart W. Cramer High School. The event is a fundraiser to provide grants for teachers and features school teams paired with business representatives to prove who really is smarter than a fifth grader. The public is invited. Admission is $5 per person or $15 for a family of four.

The Gifted and Talented Academy at Pleasant Ridge Elementary will host an open house on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for prospective students and parents.
North Gaston High School’s Leadership Academy will hold an open house for prospective students and their parents on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Families will be able to learn more about the program and ask questions during the event.

The Academy of Health and Human Services at East Gaston High School will host an open house for prospective students on Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The All-County Middle School Chorus concert is Tuesday, January 27, at 7 p.m. in the Holbrook Middle School auditorium.

Gaston Early College will host two open house events for prospective students and families. The first will be held Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The second will be held Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 6 to 7 p.m. Families are invited to attend, meet staff, and learn more about the Early College.
