As a Board of Education member, elected official, and public servant, Mrs. Gribble answered the call of service to dedicate a part of her life to Gaston County Schools.  During her time on the Board, she worked with other Board members, the superintendent, school administrators, and community leaders to improve educational opportunities for children.  She made decisions and worked diligently with the best interest of students, employees, and the community in mind.

Mrs. Gribble joined the Board of Education in 2010 at a time when Gaston County Schools faced serious budget issues because of the economic downturn.  Despite having to make tough financial decisions, she worked to protect the classroom from budget cuts.  As an advocate for childhood literacy through her involvement with the Gaston Literacy Council and Reading Soul Mates program, Mrs. Gribble understood the importance of reading education in our schools, and she always promoted the belief that reading has to be the foundation for learning.  She took great pride in the efforts to provide our schools with literacy teachers and additional reading instruction and resources for students.

Mrs. Gribble served on the Board of Education operations committee, and she was instrumental in working with Gaston College to establish the Gaston Early College High School, which opened in August 2012.  A year later, she joined other Board members in celebrating the opening of Stuart W. Cramer High School in August 2013.

Mrs. Gribble collaborated with her colleagues during her tenure on the Board of Education to enhance classroom technology, provide wireless Internet access at all schools, improve salary supplements for employees, hire a new superintendent of schools, launch live broadcasts of Board meetings on Channel 21, increase safety and security measures and provide school resource officers at all schools, and perhaps most important – she worked with her fellow Board members to strengthen the instructional program and provide more academic opportunities for students.

Everyone associated with Gaston County Schools extends our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mrs. Kaye Gribble during this difficult time of loss and sorrow.
