Well-known student shines in all he does

Known as “Jamaica” among his peers, Jaden Robinson is a star at East Gaston High School

Jaden Robinson, better known as “Jamaica” among his peers at East Gaston High School, has seized every opportunity presented to him during his time in high school. Coming to the United States from Jamaica as a sophomore, Robinson did not know anyone at his new school. But now, as a senior, everyone knows his name.

While starting at a new school can be difficult, Robinson had the added challenge of learning about living in a new country at the same time. He was only 15 years old when he moved to America with his mother, who is a teacher,  But, he never let that stop him from becoming part of the East Gaston family.

“Everywhere there is East Gaston, there is Jaden,” said principal Rebecca Huffstetler. “He’s one of those students who is just magnetic. Everyone knows Jaden, and everyone loves Jaden.”

Robinson does not take his experiences at East Gaston for granted.  He was eager to experience everything he could, even taking a JROTC class to learn more about the American military.  He is most well-known for being the student body president, learning to play (American) football, and being involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Project Unify.

He was nominated by the school faculty to be recognized as East Gaston’s Star Student for being an outstanding senior in the Class of 2026. He credits his success to the amazing teachers he’s had at East Gaston, and says his time there has helped shape him as a young man who knows the importance of character, faith, and making good choices.

Robinson is already getting ahead of life after graduation by taking nursing courses at Gaston College. He’ll receive his Certified Nursing Assistant license this summer and will continue his education to become a doctor.
