  • Information Sessions
The following sessions will be offered for students and parents.  The sessions are free.

    Session 1
    Funding Your College Education
Presented by Timeka Ruffin, Regional Representative College Foundation of NC (CFNC)
Lena Sue Beam Building, Gaston College Room 119
    10:00-10:45 a.m.

    Session Description:
This session will focus on the process of applying for state, federal, and institutional financial aid for college, how financial helps in paying for college, and what to expect from colleges through the financial aid process. This session will include a brief overview of Residency Determination Service Requirement and how to use CFNC.org resources to help you along the way.

    Session 2
    Making College Affordable
Presented by Megan Lingerfeldt, Student Recruiter
Lena Sue Beam Building, Gaston College Room 119
    11:00-11:45 a.m.

    Session Description:
This session will discuss numerous opportunities for making college affordable: high school dual enrollment, things to consider when selecting a college, and tips for saving and paying for college. Session will be presented by the Gaston College Admissions Office.

    Session 3
    Going to College
Presented by Cassandra Thompson, Gaston County Ferguson Branch Supervisor
Lena Sue Beam Building, Gaston College Room 119
    12:00-12:45 p.m.

    Session Description:
An introduction to the library’s print and online resources geared toward the needs of the college-bound student. The program I have put together uses a powerpoint presentation to introduce the free resources the library has available to help anyone who is interested in going to college.  It usually runs about 50 minutes, and generally follows the "Going to College" Research Guide (http://gastonlibrary.libguides.com/college).   It would be very good as a "BYO-Device" session since a library card is not necessary for anything except the Testing & Education Reference Center (replaces Learning Express) access through NC Live.
