    Gaston County Teacher of the Year

    The 2015-2016 Gaston County Teacher of the Year is Bobbie Cavnar from South Point High School. The award is presented by Wells Fargo Bank.

    Mr. Cavnar is an English teacher at South Point. He has 16 years of experience in education and has taught at South Point for the past 12 years.

    He earned a Bachelor of Science in English Education from Florida State University and a master’s degree in English from UNC-Charlotte.

    Students say they enjoy being in Mr. Cavnar’s class because he is “very engaging, asks our opinion on things, and values what we say and believe.” Another student said, “He makes you want to come to school; he teaches life lessons, not just English.” When asked what makes Mr. Cavnar’s class different from others, one student replied, “Every year, everyone looks forward to getting into his class and then when you are finally there, it exceeds your expectations.”
