OUTSTANDING SENIOR: Jay Boyd
Even before walking the aisle to receive his diploma at East Gaston High School, Jay Boyd has already taken steps toward his intended career.
Boyd wants to become a sports reporter and has begun a summer internship with The Gaston Gazette. It’s a chance to gain experience before heading to Appalachian State University to study communications and broadcasting.
His hard work and initiative are likely to help him achieve his career goals. When Boyd makes up his mind, he gets it done. After all, when he decided this year to become the East Gaston Warriors’ biggest fan, he more than accomplished his goal.
Boyd became a leader in the school his senior year as he planned student spirit days and rallied the crowd at sporting events. It made a difference: the football team had its best season in years.
Also a volunteer with East Gaston’s Interact Club, Boyd has read to students, planted flowers at Springfield Elementary and helped to host an annual Christmas party for children.
Congratulations, Jay Boyd -- an outstanding senior in the Gaston County Schools Class of 2015!
