  • OUTSTANDING SENIOR:  Jeffrey Friday

Jeffrey Friday Jeffrey Friday hasn’t started classes at UNC-Chapel Hill yet, but he already has plans for what he will do after college graduation.

The Forestview High School student says he wants to return to the classroom as a math teacher and an advocate for his students to become active participants in their community.

Friday has already made a difference in the community. Using his lifelong passion for soccer, he began “Let’s Play Soccer,” a program to provide developmentally disabled youth an opportunity to learn soccer at no cost. He recruited players from the girls and boys varsity soccer teams to help with the program.

The captain of his school’s varsity soccer team, Friday was named one of North Carolina’s seven finalists for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for his work with the youth soccer camp.

An AP Scholar and Governor’s School student, Friday also earned the $10,000 State Employees Credit Union (SECU) “People Helping People” Scholarship and was one of three winners of The Gaston Gazette’s regional “Best and Brightest” scholarships.

Congratulations, Jeffrey Friday -- an outstanding senior in the Gaston County Schools Class of 2015!
