OUTSTANDING SENIOR: Jonathan LeMusic has been Jonathan Le’s focus and passion at Forestview High School and beyond. He uses it in a way to serve his Gaston County community and even villages as far away as Vietnam and Cambodia. Now, Le plans to make music the focus of his career as well.
Le has been an outstanding student and leader in the marching, concert and jazz band programs at Forestview where he’s the saxophone section leader. He also plays the piano, violin and clarinet.
In the community, he helps to lead worship at the Vietnamese Baptist church in Gastonia where his father is the pastor. He plays as part of the Parkwood Church orchestra and, with his teacher John Alexander, as part of a jazz combo that gives performances around the region.
Starting in middle school, where he earned a spot in the All-State Band, Le has earned numerous music awards. He has also taken as many music courses as he can, even enrolling this year in an AP Music Theory course through the N.C. Virtual Public School since the class wasn’t offered at Forestview.
Le brought his talent and love for music with him on a three-month service trip to Vietnam and Cambodia last summer. Living with no running water or electricity, Le said enjoyed the chance to learn and serve, helping churches with their music.
“It was very fun and eye-opening to see people living in various cultures and styles, sharing the gospel, meeting and worshipping with them,” he said.
In the fall, Le’s interest in music will take him to Appalachian State University where he has earned a prestigious Hayes Music Scholarship. He hopes to pursue a career as a music pastor or music director.Congratulations, Jonathan Le -- an outstanding senior in the Gaston County Schools Class of 2016!
