  • OUTSTANDING SENIOR:  Randi Brewton
Bessemer City - Randi Brewton She wants to become a neurologist or surgeon. Judging by what she’s accomplished in the classroom and on the field at Bessemer City High School, Randi Brewton is well on her way to success in college, medical school and beyond.

An outstanding student-athlete, Brewton has been a leader year-round on the volleyball, basketball and track teams.

She has been recognized as an individual scholar-athlete by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, an honor given to students with a 3.5 or higher grade point average, and also helped the volleyball team earn its scholar-athlete recognition. Additionally, Brewton received the Distinguished Athlete award from the U.S. Marine Corps.

She has studied in Bessemer City’s nursing fundamentals program, taking rigorous AP (Advanced Placement) and honors courses all the way through her senior year while also participating in the high school’s Leadership Academy and Beta Club.  She also finds time to serve as a leader in her church’s worship ministry.
Brewton has incorporated her medical interests into her studies and volunteer work, helping recruit donors for and volunteering with the school’s annual blood drive and also earning her CPR certification.

“She lets nothing stop her from achieving the goals she sets for herself,” said assistant principal Andrea Meyer. “Her absence on the court and in the classroom will certainly be felt next year.”

Brewton is headed to Mars Hill University this fall where she has earned a $12,000 leadership scholarship, among other financial awards.
Congratulations, Randi Brewton -- an outstanding senior in the Gaston County Schools Class of 2016!
