Bessemer City High - Seven James Seven James has overcome obstacles on his way to graduating in the top 10 at Bessemer City High School. James has faced challenges that few of his peers experience, said school counselor Dawn Whitted.

James was raised by his grandparents, and his grandfather passed away last year. Despite this loss and other difficulties, James has persevered through rigorous academic courses and earned a reputation in the school as a caring, responsible young man and a leader. “He’s just one of those students that excels in everything that he does,” Whitted said.

That includes excelling in his AP Music Theory class. Music has played a large role in his high school career. James is an honors band student who participates in the concert and marching bands and has earned a band leadership award.

James was part of the high school’s Leadership Academy, a group of students chosen through a competitive application process for their leadership and scholastic potential. He is an all-around student, excelling in English classes as well as taking an honors forensic science course this year. James is also a member of the Beta Club, as well as the yearbook, high school journalism and prom committees.

He is known for his character, as well, having been recognized as Student of the Month and a recipient of the “Touch of Kindness” award given to students who make a difference in the school. This fall, he will head to Gaston College, the first stop on his way to a degree in psychology.
Congratulations, Seven James -- an outstanding senior in the Gaston County Schools Class of 2016!
