Meet the finalists for Teacher of the Year
Finalists announced for Gaston County Teacher of the Year, 2021-2022
Gaston County Schools has announced the finalists for Gaston County Teacher of the Year, 2021-2022. They are:
Savanna Abernathy, Bessemer City Central Elementary
Abernathy is in her sixth year of teaching and is currently a third grade teacher. She has an Associate of Arts from Gaston College and a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from UNC-Greensboro.
Natalie Childers, Gardner Park Elementary
Childers is in her fourth year of teaching and is currently a fourth grade teacher. This year, she is teaching online through the Gaston County Virtual Academy. She has a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from UNC-Charlotte.
Casey Miller, Stanley Middle School
Miller is in his eighth year of teaching and is currently a seventh and eighth grade social studies teacher. He has a Bachelor of Arts in history, a Bachelor of Arts in communication, and Master of Arts in secondary education from Northern Kentucky University.
Staci Nezezon, Pinewood Elementary
Nezezon is in her ninth year of teaching and is currently a second grade teacher. This year, she is teaching online through the Gaston County Virtual Academy. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in literacy from Buffalo State College.
The winner will be announced this spring during our annual Evening of Excellence program, which is being sponsored this year by Truist Bank.
