Gastonia Nissan fills two Frontiers with supplies

Gaston County Schools receives two truckloads of school supplies

The school supplies keep coming for Gaston County Schools.  This time, it’s a donation big enough to fill the truck bed of two Nissan Frontiers.

For the sixth consecutive year, Gastonia Nissan sponsored the “Fill the Frontier” school supplies drive for Gaston County Schools and collected notebooks, backpacks, pens, pencils, and more.  The dealership ended up with so many supplies that the total value exceeded $5,000.

“This partnership with Gaston County Schools is important to us because it gives children the opportunity to get the supplies they need to start school off the right way,” said Gastonia Nissan managing partner Jeff Viner.

School social workers and administrators picked up the supplies at the dealership on Friday, September 20.  The supplies were collected in the back of two Nissan Frontier trucks parked on the showroom floor.

“We have many families who do not have the resources to purchase school supplies,” said Kelley Wright from Brookside Elementary.  “You should see the smiles on our students’ faces when we can give them a new shiny backpack filled with school supplies.”

For every item donated from the community, Gastonia Nissan matched it.  To help with the collection effort, Covenant Village in Gastonia raised $700 through a car wash to purchase school supplies.  Additionally, Gastonia Nissan employees filled three gift bags full of encouraging handwritten notes for students.

“We would like to thank Gastonia Nissan for organizing this successful collection drive year after year,” said Valerie Yatko, director of business and community partnerships.  “We are extremely fortunate to have Gastonia Nissan as one of our outstanding business/community partners.”

This year, the dealership also collected non-perishable food items as part of its partnership with the BackPack Weekend Food Program.  The program provides a backpack of food every weekend for more than 1,000 students in the community.

Thank you, Gastonia Nissan, for supporting our schools and our students!
