‘Do the Right Thing’ award winners for February
‘Do the Right Thing’ award winners chosen for February
Every day in our schools, there are students who set themselves apart by doing things that make a difference in the lives of others. They do these things without expecting anything in return.
These students are recognized by The Gaston Gazette’s ‘Do the Right Thing’ program. In partnership with Gaston County Schools, The Gazette honors a student at each school level every month from September through May.
The program brings attention to students who distinguish themselves by their actions, whether big or small. From something like organizing a fundraiser or a food drive for those in need to holding open the door for students on their way to class, these exemplary students make sure that their classmates and others are cared for and treated well.
The students’ attitudes, accomplishments, and efforts make them stand out as positive role models for others, and faculty and staff are always sure to take notice. The information about each ‘Do the Right Thing’ winner is provided by the principal.
Here are the profiles for our ‘Do the Right Thing’ award winners for February 2021:
Elementary School Winner
Kimora Lambert
Springfield Elementary School
Parent: Donta Lambert
Though Kimora Lambert is a new student at Springfield Elementary School, the second-grader has made a strong impression on her teachers and her peers. Kimora has been quick to make new friends in her class, and she is a leader both inside and outside of the classroom. She always has a positive attitude and is very excited about learning new things. Faculty and staff say Kimora has adjusted well to her new surroundings and that she stands out as a great student at Springfield Elementary. She is very kind to others and makes sure that she helps out around the classroom when she can.
Middle School Winner
Abigail Saynorath
Cramerton Middle School
Parent: Amy Saynorath
Abigail Saynorath loves to make sure that everyone is included. An eighth grader at Cramerton Middle School, Abi brightens everyone’s day on a regular basis with her positive attitude and the fun activities she organizes. For example, on Valentine’s Day, she arranged a surprise for her classmates where each student got a treat and a kind note to celebrate the holiday. The epitome of kindness, Abi does her best to show kindness to others and to always offer them a supportive hand and a listening ear. Her efforts to include others and to make everyone feel welcome is what makes Abi the “Do the Right Thing” winner for the month of February.
High School Winner
Nathan Franks
North Gaston High School
Parents: Susan and Allen Franks
While it has been a challenging year for students, Nathan Franks wanted to make the best of his senior year at North Gaston High School. The 12th grader began looking for things he could do to help his classmates enjoy their last year of high school together. Creating a list of activities, Nathan was able to make sure he and his friends were still able to do the things that a graduating class would normally get to do. His leadership skills and quick thinking allowed him to develop a plan for seniors to virtually interact with elementary school classrooms. Facing challenges head on and coming up with quick solutions are the reasons why Nathan was chosen as North Gaston’s “Do the Right Thing” student.
Congratulations to our ‘Do the Right Thing’ award winners!
