Board of Education to appoint Gaston College trustee
Gastonia, N.C. – The Gaston County Board of Education is conducting the process to select an appointee for the Gaston College Board of Trustees. The appointee will serve a four-year term on the college’s Board of Trustees beginning July 1, 2020.
Citizens wishing to be considered for the appointment should complete an application form and return it by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 to the Gaston County Schools Central Office, 943 Osceola Street, Gastonia.
Citizens may pick up the application form at the Gaston County Schools Central Office in Gastonia or download it from the school district’s website: www.gaston.k12.nc.us – click the “Board of Education” tab and choose “Gaston College Board of Trustees Appointment” in the list.
Applicants will participate in an interview on Monday, June 15 prior to the Board of Education’s regular meeting for June. Applicants will be notified of their interview time and the process for conducting the interview. The appointment will be included on the agenda for the June 15 regular meeting.
The appointee should possess knowledge of community needs, awareness of the roles of the North Carolina Community College System and K-12 education, and an understanding of the relationship between county commissioners and funding for public education.
The Board of Education is responsible for appointing four people to the Gaston College Board of Trustees. Each year, one Board of Education appointee rotates off the Board of Trustees effective June 30, and the Board of Education is responsible for filling the vacancy.
