OUTSTANDING SENIOR: Tiana Patterson
Tiana Patterson wants to become a pediatric nurse and help children. She already has a head start on her goal, having spent the last four years making a difference at Ashbrook High School and in the community.
For the last six years, Patterson has been a mentor and junior staff member of the Gastonia Boys and Girls Club. For her work, she was honored as Youth of the Year for two years in a row, going on to compete at the statewide level.
Her leadership in the community also includes four years on the Teen Action Council, which is the youth leadership group for the Gaston County Health Department. Together with other teens, Patterson created health education initiatives and awareness programs on topics such as pregnancy prevention, substance abuse, nutrition, and exercise.
Patterson learned more about community and government policy issues when she was selected to serve as a Governor’s Page in 2015 and had the opportunity to work with the governor’s administrative staff.
Patterson is a leader at Ashbrook, especially in the choir. She has been selected for the all-county choir each of her four years of high school and sang at Carnegie Hall with the school's choir this spring.
In the fall, she plans to attend either Lees McRae College, where she has been offered a merit scholarship, or Fayetteville State University.
Congratulations, Tiana Patterson -- an outstanding senior in the Gaston County Schools Class of 2016!
