Yelisa Leiva will attend the number three architecture program in the nation when she heads to Syracuse University this fall.
Not only did the Hunter Huss High School student earn a full-tuition scholarship totalling $160,000, she also gained admission to the university’s Honors Program.
Leiva became a leader at Hunter Huss where she founded four student clubs and earned numerous awards, including The Gaston Gazette’s “Best and Brightest” recognition. She also won the Sister Cities National Art Competition and an essay contest sponsored by the Major William Chronicle Chapter of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
A member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society, Leiva also found time during her high school career to serve as a volunteer at the Gaston County Public Library.
