Dr. Dimayquoaye Smith

School Counselor

Hello students and families,

My name is Dr. Dimayquoaye Smith, and I am honored to serve as one of your School Counselors here at W.C. Friday Middle School in Gastonia, NC. As we begin this school year, I want to take a moment to introduce myself and let you know that my door is always open whether you’re a student navigating a tough day, a parent needing support, or simply someone looking for a listening ear or helpful guidance.

I bring a diverse background to this role and am deeply committed to helping every student thrive. I am a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, Certified Clinical Supervisor, Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol Drug Counselor, and a DOT Substance Abuse Professional, with credentials through the NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board and the Credentialing and Education Board.

My educational background includes:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Non-Profit Management from Gardner-Webb University

  • A Master’s degree in School Administration from the University of Phoenix

  • Master’s degrees in Addictions Counseling and Marriage & Family Counseling from Grand Canyon University

  • A Master’s in Theological Studies from Liberty University

  • And a Doctoral degree in Theology from the Carolina School of Theology

My journey in education began back in 2001 as a tutor for Communities In Schools in Cleveland County. Since then, I’ve served in a variety of roles  from AVID tutor and bus driver to site director, teacher assistant, and school bus driver. I’ve also worked as a career counselor and as a substance abuse counselor in private practice and for the Department of Public Safety. In the classroom, I’ve taught everything from kindergarten through eighth grade, and I’ve been a school counselor for the past two years.

Beyond titles and experience, what truly drives me is my passion for helping students succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and personally. Counseling, teaching, and supporting youth are not just jobs to me; they are callings.

I’m originally from Shelby, NC, and I live with my wonderful wife Princess and our five amazing children. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, studying theology, and staying active in our community.

Students, whether you're facing challenges, setting goals, or simply need someone to talk to, please know that I’m here for you.
Parents, I encourage you to reach out if you ever have questions, concerns, or need support for your child we're in this together.

Let’s make this a year of growth, resilience, and achievement.
You are never alone stop by the counseling office any time.

Wishing everyone a fantastic school year ahead!
