College testing timeline
9th grade- Pre ACT 8/9
10th grade- Pre ACT 10 and PSAT
11th grade- PSAT (optional for National Merit competition), ACT (required by North Carolina, taken in February)
It is recommended in 11th grade that students take the SAT in addition to the free ACT required by the state. Students should take whichever test they like best a second time with the goal of improving the initial test score. Higher college entrance exam scores can lead to admission to competitive majors, honors college, and additional scholarship opportunities.
