Gaston County Schools is the second largest employer in Gaston County with more than 3,800 full-time and part-time employees, including 1,950 classroom teachers.
We are the tenth largest school district in North Carolina with more than 30,000 students, and our neighborhood schools are a great source of community pride.
Our 56 schools are accredited by AdvancED/Cognia – receiving accreditation is a recognition that signifies that all of our schools have earned the distinction of being a quality school.

Teacher transfer information for 2025-2026
The teacher transfer window is May 7 - June 6. Teachers who are interested in transferring to another school for the 2025–2026 academic year can find more information by clicking here. The deadline to apply for a transfer is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 6. If you have questions or need assistance, call the Human Resources Department at (704) 866-6129.
