Big 50 Anniversary: Are you ready to celebrate?
It’s Gaston County Schools’ 50th anniversary, and we are celebrating all year long!
The 2018-2019 academic year marks 50 years since the merger/consolidation of the county schools with the Gastonia city schools and the Cherryville city schools. The unification (as it was called in documents from 1968) formed “Gaston County Schools” as we know it today.
There are lots of fun activities planned for our “Big 50 Anniversary” starting with our Back-To-School Convocation for employees. Other events include a history exhibit, parade, birthday party, and school reunions/open houses as well as special programming on Channel 21 and much more.
See the list below for our upcoming events. We want you to be a part of the celebration!

131 West Main Street, Dallas
December 1, 2018 - March 9, 2019
Over the past 50 years, our high school and junior high/middle school sports teams have won numerous championships and given us plenty of reasons to cheer. This exhibit highlights athletics in Gaston County Schools since 1968 with pictures, trophies, jerseys, and other memorabilia. Plus, the exhibit offers a glimpse at the history of the school district through pictures, old newsletters, and other publications. It is important to note that the exhibit only highlights the rich sports history of our schools; it is not meant to be a comprehensive historical display.
