    Counseling Week

    February 5 - 9, 2018

As we recognize National Schooling Week this week, I'm reminded of why I LOVE being a school counselor...

I have the privilege of working with children- watching them grow and develop, listening to their thoughts, ideas and laughter, helping support them through school and life, encouraging them and cheering for them.  What an honor!

I have the opportunity to help and support others as well.  Being a school counselor aligns with one of my core beliefs- the responsibility to serve others.    I am grateful for the opportunity to do so.

    School Counselor Week

Thank you Hawks Nest Staff and Students for your words of encouragement, beautiful cards, flowers, gift cards and delicious lunch & treats in recognition of National School Counseling Week.  I sincerely appreciate your thoughtfulness and kindness.

HNSA Student Council: Kindness in Action - December 2017

In December, student council members created greeting cards to donate to assisted living residents at Morningside of Gastonia.  Student council members decorated 100 greeting cards.

Student council members also participated in Macy's Believe campaign.  Student Council invited others HNSA students to participate as well.  For every letter written to Santa, Macy's donates $1 per letter (up to $1 million dollars) to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in an effort to help transform the lives of children with critical illnesses.   HNSA submitted approximately 100 letters.

International Dot Day 2016 (September 15ish)

International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.  The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”.  What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe. (from official Dot Day page- see link below)
