Doneen Johnson

Assistant Principal

Doneen Johnson is a native of St. Helena Is., SC. She graduated from Francis Marion University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She has also received a Master's degree in Instructional Technology from Lesley University and a Master of School Administration degree from Fayetteville State University through the North Carolina Principal Fellows program. 

Ms. Johnson has worked as a classroom teacher and remediation teacher for 3rd-5th grade, a reading enrichment teacher for 6th grade, and an instructional coach for 6th-8th grade. She has experience as an assistant principal and has completed the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals’ Association’s Future-Ready Leadership (FRL) program. 

Ms. Johnson is excited to be at the Hive! Her belief is that it is our responsibility as educators to teach our students how to think so they can become their own teacher using the knowledge gained. She works each day to ensure a rigorous learning environment focused on the things that matter to support child development, because our students need a place where they feel welcomed and challenged to be great.

Molly Tessnear

Assistant Principal Intern

Molly Tessnear, originally from Cherryville, N.C., is a graduate of Gardner-Webb University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. In 2015, she began her career in education as an English teacher at Hunter Huss High School. Over the course of seven years, she taught English, Creative Writing, and Yearbook Journalism to students in grades 9-12. During that time, she fell in love with teaching as well as advocating for students and their needs.

In the 2018-2019 school year, Mrs. Tessnear was selected as the Hunter Huss Teacher of the Year and was named a finalist for Gaston County Schools Teacher of the Year. In 2021, Mrs. Tessnear was selected to be a North Carolina Principal Fellow and is currently pursuing her Master of School Administration degree at UNC-Charlotte. 

This year, she is overjoyed to serve as an Assistant Principal Intern at Woodhill Elementary School! She is excited to support the mission and vision of the HIVE - to create a positive, productive, and safe learning environment where teachers, students, families, and the community can work together to help our students achieve.
