Teen Action Council Application
We are now recruiting for the 2020-2021 Teen Action Council Year.
The Gaston County Teen Action Council (TAC) is the youth leadership arm of the Gaston County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS). TAC aims to raise awareness and advocate for comprehensive and evidence-based health education and teen-friendly health services for young people in Gaston County. TAC also empowers young people to develop and lead health education initiatives for their peers at school and in their communities.
The Teen Action Council will be composed of dynamic Gaston County high school youth who come together to promote the importance of teen health education in our community.

Community Foundation Gaston County Scholarships - More than two dozen scholarships that recognize achievement, respond to financial need and help to build a future generation of community leaders. The criteria, application process and annual award amounts vary.

Interested in a career in teaching? N.C. State is offering a five day, residential summer program focused on leadership and a career in education. All expenses are paid except for travel to and from the program at N.C. State. You may be nominated by your school or submit a self nomination. TMCF Fleischer HBCU Scholars Program
June 20-26, 2020
Students will learn the necessary skills for success in college and beyond by participating in the following activities:
Discover academic and career opportunities in business
Participate in professional and leadership development activities
Interact with students, faculty, staff, and alumni
Find out more about university admission and available financial assistance options
Build a peer network with other rising seniors/students from around the state in a
cohort style program; develop relationships with students with similar interests

The program is open to current NC high school juniors, who will participate in the program the summer before entering their senior year.
The TMCF Fleischer HBCU Scholars Program application requires the following:
General information, including student, parent, and high school Academic information, including a list of all business courses taken in high school Involvement information, including clubs, organizations, community service, and work experience
Two short answer questions, maximum 300 words
Official high school transcript
1 letter of recommendation
The program is free for all students selected to participate! Housing, meals, and all program materials are provided.

Directions for Understanding your PSAT
Your PSAT/NMSQT scores will online by December 11, 2019. You'll have an email from College Board with instructions on creating your account and using your access code to view your scores.
Follow these steps:
Go to https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10 and watch the video take the video tour of how to read your score report.
Sign or create your CollegeBoard account.
Get your full report online at studentscores.collegeboard.org.
Follow the prompts and use your Access Code found on the front of your score report to link your PSAT scores to your account.
Click on the Khan Academy link, share your PSAT scores with Khan Academy, and start practicing. Khan Academy is the best way to practice for the SAT.
Be organized! Create a folder in which to keep your PSAT and SAT score reports.
