    Middle School Attendance Procedures

    Chavis Family,

Beginning on Monday, 11-16-2020, Gaston County Schools is implementing a new attendance procedure for Remote Learning Days. Students will be required to complete their Remote Learning Day work prior to the end of the normal school day in order to be marked present. Completion of work is now the only way to be marked present on Remote Learning Days. Daily Attendance will be based on your child’s Homeroom teacher, but period attendance will also be marked in every class based on completion of work. Examples of how completing work affects attendance:

    • Daily as assigned - marked present
    • If a student wants to do all the work in advance, they will be marked present for their three Remote Learning Days
    • If a student completes all the work late, or completes work after normal school hours, teachers will correct the absences and grades for the Remote Learning Days. **This may take up to seven days

The goal of John Chavis Middle School is to strive for academic excellence and academic growth for all of our students. Completing daily work and attending school in person and remotely is integral for student success. Weekly progress reports and PowerSchool can be used to monitor the academic progress of your student. As always, if you have any questions about attendance or grades, please contact your child’s teacher.
