Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Todd Dellinger- School Principal
I would like to welcome all of our families to the 2020-21 school year. We begin this school year with our schools and families facing many of the same challenges from last school year. We never could have imagined what we have experienced over the past few months. COVID has changed every aspect of our schools and our lives.
I am so proud of the amazing job our staff and students did as we all learned about remote learning together. I am also proud of the support shown to our school from our wonderful Cherryville faith based and business partners. We worked hard to ensure the safety of our families, staff, and students as we distributed materials and celebrated a unique ending to the school year.
This year as we begin learning under a blended learning model, which will include both in person and remote learning, we are excited to take our experiences, learn and grow from them, and make sure your child is receiving the very best education we can offer them in a safe and caring environment. More will be required from all us to make sure students are successful as they quickly review and then move on to new learning.
Please reach out to us for the support that you and your child needs to learn and grow. I ask for your patience and understanding with our staff and your students as we are all doing something new and I promise those same things will be offered from us to you. Make sure you have liked the Facebook page, followed us on Twitter, and bookmarked our school website. Please keep your email address and phone numbers updated in our system so we can effectively communicate with you during this challenging time.
Together we will meet the challenges that we face and have a wonderful school year. My door is always open to you. Know with confidence that we will all be doing the very best we can to ensure your child is receiving the very best each and everyday. Cherryville is a great place and W. Blaine Beam is an amazing school. I am blessed beyond words each and every day to be a part of our Beam Family.
A little bit about me... I come from a family of educators. My dad was a teacher, principal, and central office administrator for 40 years and my mom was a history teacher for over 30 years. They instilled in me a passion for teaching and learning. I graduated from Western Carolina University in 1992 with a degree in Social Studies Education and in 1993 with a Master of Arts in Education in history. During my time teaching, I went back to school at Appalachian State University and received a Masters Degree in School Administration in 2001. I spent ten amazing years of teaching history and psychology at Morehead High School in Eden, North Carolina. I was very fortunate to get come back home to Cherryville to be the assistant principal at Cherryville Elementary School for five wonderful years. I have had tremendous opportunities in Gaston County Schools to serve as the principal at Bessemer City Primary, Brookside Elementary, and most recently at Tryon Elementary for the four years before coming to W. Blaine Beam.
I have four sons. Matthew my oldest son has come through all our schools here in Cherryville and will be a sophmore at Western Carolina University this fall. He loves to play soccer and tennis. I could not be prouder or feel more fortunate that he came through all our Cherryville Schools. I have a stepson Hollis who will be entering into 9th grade. He loves soccer and is very active in his Boy Scout troop. My stepson Everett will be going into 4th grade and also enjoys playing basketball, reading, and being a Cub Scout. My youngest son will be turning 4 in January and he enjoys getting into everything! My wife Kelly is a 3rd-grade teacher at Fallston Elementary School and has been teaching for 16 years.
I feel a great connection to this school. My grandparents and dad attended school here when the high school was located on this site, and the 4/5th grade relocated here from the Cherryville Elementary School when I was the assistant principal. I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking (especially section hiking the Appalachian Trail with my wife and a group of friends), camping, fishing, playing chess, working with my son’s scout troop and pack, and anything related to history. My door is always open to you with any concerns. My goal every day for 27 years has been, and will continue to be, to do what is in the best interest of children. I feel so fortunate and blessed to begin my 28th year as the principal at W. Blaine Intermediate and I look forward to working with the staff here to make sure our students and staff have the very best year.
