Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Todd Dellinger- School Principal

I come from a family of educators. My dad was a teacher, principal, and central office administrator for 40 years and my mom was a history teacher for over 30 years. They instilled in me a passion for teaching and learning. I graduated from Western Carolina University in 1992 with a degree in Social Studies Education and in 1993 with a Master of Arts in Education in history. During my time teaching, I went back to school at Appalachian State University and received a Masters Degree in School Administration in 2001. I spent ten amazing years of teaching history and psychology at Morehead High School in Eden, North Carolina. I was very fortunate to get come back home to Cherryville to be the assistant principal at Cherryville Elementary School for five wonderful years. I have had tremendous opportunities in Gaston County Schools to serve as the principal at Bessemer City Primary, Brookside Elementary, and most recently at Tryon Elementary for the four years before coming to W. Blaine Beam.

I have four sons. Matthew my oldest son has come through all our schools here in Cherryville and will be a junior at Western Carolina University this fall. He loves to play soccer and tennis. I could not be prouder or feel more fortunate that he came through all our Cherryville Schools. I have a stepson Hollis who will be entering into 10th grade. He loves soccer and is very active in his Boy Scout troop. My stepson Everett will be going into 5th grade and also enjoys playing basketball, reading, and being a Cub Scout. My youngest son will be turning 5 in January and he enjoys getting into everything! My wife Kelly is a 3rd-grade teacher at Fallston Elementary School and has been teaching for 17 years.

I feel a great connection to this school. My grandparents and dad attended school here when the high school was located on this site, and the 4/5th grade relocated here from the Cherryville Elementary School when I was the assistant principal. I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking (especially section hiking the Appalachian Trail with my wife and a group of friends), camping, fishing, playing chess, working with my son’s scout troop and pack, and anything related to history. My door is always open to you with any concerns. My goal every day for 28 years has been, and will continue to be, to do what is in the best interest of children. I feel so fortunate and blessed to begin my 29th year as the principal at W. Blaine Intermediate and I look forward to working with the staff here to make sure our students and staff have the very best year.
