Mrs. Donna Biddix
I have been interested in art all of my life. I took art lessons from the time I was very small. I studied art for two years in high school. I was a tutor for my high school art teacher. I studied studio art for two years at Gaston College. I graduated from the University of NC at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History. While studying there, I also worked in the Weatherspoon Art Museum on campus. I was on the committee that welcomed visiting artists to the university. I was honored to meet two of my favorite artists when they visited our campus. (Robert Longo and Laurie Simmons).
I have been working for Gaston County Schools as an art teacher since 1999. I also teach classes part time for the Gaston Arts Council at Art for the Heart. I have worked in both summer and afternoon art programs at Gaston School of the Arts.
I love to travel and have visited many museums around the world. I was even lucky enough to get to go inside a Mayan pyramid that was being excavated in Guatemala.
In 2011, I had the opportunity to visit a friend of mine who lives in Finland. We visited museums, cathedrals, public sculpture gardens and historical sites in Finland, Sweden and Estonia. I brought many treasures from the trip to share with the students at Cherryville. They were very excited to see all of the stuff that I brought, but their favorite was a receipt from McDonald's in Stockholm, Sweden!!
Every year, I try to visit the state art teacher's conference. This is a great resource for ideas for new projects for the students.
