Betsy States

Betsy States taught kindergarten resource classes at Sherwood Elementary before coming to Webb Street School in January of 2000 to serve as the Aquatics Teacher where she has remained for over 14 years. She received a BA degree in Physical Education with Aquatic Emphasis from Columbia College in 1978 where she was a competitive and synchronized swim team member, Lifeguard, and SCUBA Diver. Betsy has been married for 36 years to husband Louis, and has 3 children; Amanda, age 34, Benjamin, age 32, and Casey, age 27, and has 3 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. She also serves as a Girls on the Run coach at Webb, serves on the Special Olympics Committee which plans the yearly Special Olympic Fall and Spring Games for Gaston County Students, as well as coaches several sports for Special Olympics; swimming, bowling, and bocce ball.  In 2006, she received the Teacher of the Year award presented by the ARC of Gaston County. Betsy has taught home swimming lessons for 38 years.
