Mr. Burns

Mr. Burns is excited to be at Brookside Elementary serving as the Assistant Principal for the 2022-2023 school year! This will be his 18th year in education. He last served as an art teacher in Guilford County for seven years. Prior to that, he taught art in Beaufort County for ten years. Mr. Burns is a believer that all students have the ability to be successful.  

Originally from St. Louis, Mr. Burns graduated with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from the University of Missouri, St. Louis and a Masters in Arts Education from the University of Florida. He is currently working on his add on certificate from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.  He considers learning a life-long experience.

Mr. Burns is proud of becoming a Brookside Bulldog. His high school mascot was also a bulldog. In high school, he participated in baseball, basketball and golf. After excelling in golf, he went on to play collegiately. After college, he moved to North Carolina to teach. During his time in education, he has served as the head coach for many teams, including baseball, soccer, golf and football. He believes education should be an all-encompassing experience leaving students well rounded.   

Mr. Burns is eager to build Brookside Elementary into the premier elementary school in Gaston County Schools.
