Bridgette Best

Bridgette Best, a native North Carolinian, graduated from Virginia State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Elementary Education (Pre-K-6).  She later attended Wingate University where she obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (K-12). 

Ms. Best’s educational career began in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools where she spent a number of years as an elementary and middle school educator. During the 2014-2015 school year, she was awarded Teacher of the Year for her local school and later became Teacher of the Year for the Northeast Learning Community which positioned her as a Teacher of the Year Finalist for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.   Upon entrance into Gaston County Schools, Ms. Best has served as Instructional Facilitator and Assistant Principal at Woodhill Elementary School.

Ms. Best’s goal every day is to encourage and motivate students and teachers to desire and strive for excellence regardless of circumstances. She believes and is proof that all students can learn and is thankful for every opportunity provided to promote student and professional growth.

Shawn Czerkis

Hello Panther Families! My name is Shawn Czerkis and I am honored to join the team here at Pleasant Ridge as your Assistant Principal!

I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I attended Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan where I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in social studies and English for secondary education. In 2019, I earned my Master's Degree in K-12 School Administration from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC.

I moved to North Carolina in 2013 and have been an educator in Gaston County ever since. I began my career at Bessemer City Middle School. From 2013-2017, I was a language arts and social studies teacher, athletic director, and I coached softball, soccer, basketball, and baseball. Most recently, I taught language arts and social studies and coached softball and baseball at W.C. Friday Middle School from 2017-2020.

It is my goal to motivate our students to be lifelong learners and for them to be ready for the next level of their education. All this while ensuring that all students reach their highest potential and grow into model citizens. Additionally, it is my goal to foster and facilitate the healthy social and emotional development of each child.

Ms. Shanika Mack

Ms. Mack is a graduate of Wayne County Public Schools. She continued her education at North Carolina State University and completed a degree in Middle Grades Education; a Masters in Curriculum Instruction and School Administration. Throughout her 14 years of educational experience, she has been selected as a NC Teaching Fellow, Beginning Teacher of the Year (Wayne County), NC Principal Fellow and Assistant Principal Finalist for Pender County Schools. Ms. Mack is currently a doctoral student studying educational leadership. She enjoys spending time with her family, walking her pet dog and learning new things.
