Ms. Kimberly Stellato - Department Chair

My experiences began in church-with leading Wednesday night children’s groups, which then led me to substitute teaching, then tutoring, bus driving, being a teacher assistant, and ultimately to teaching in my own class! I have taught K, 1st, and 4th grades, as well as tutored students in 2nd, and 3rd grades. My career in education began in 2005, but I have been in my own classroom for 9 ½ years now.

My education began at Gaston College, where I earned an AA degree, then, I transferred to Belmont Abbey College to continue my education and earned my BA degree(graduated Summa Cum Laude) in K-6 education.

I have three grown children, but no grandchildren yet! I love to read, volunteer with my church to help organizations that we partner with, and travel. It is so rewarding to see children grow and learn! It’s fun to see them begin to understand things. That will always be the best part of teaching and I will not get tired of seeing that!

B.S. Psychology- University of South Carolina Upstate M.A. - Elementary Education - Converse College

Mrs. April Kinnear

My experience teaching began when I started substitute teaching in college. I loved working with elementary-age students and it led me to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina Upstate, then went on to Converse College to receive my Masters of Arts in teaching. I began my teaching career in Greenville, SC for Greenville County Schools. I thought there for eight years. I began teaching kindergarten, and after three years, moved on to teach first grade. I moved to Gaston County two years ago after I got married to my wonderful husband, Kory. We currently live in Belmont and are raising our son Keegan and two crazy dogs, Ollie and Kylo. This will be my third year teaching first grade AIG at Pleasant Ridge Elementary. I am so excited about this upcoming school year and look forward to seeing each child in my class grow. I'm working on my AIG certificate and hope to have it completed by the end of the 2023 school year.

BSW Social Work - Appalachian State University

Ms. Rachel McDaniel

My name is Rachel McDaniel. I am so excited to start my teaching career at Pleasant Ridge Elementary as a 1st grade teacher! Go Panthers!

I have my Bachelors degree in Social Work from Appalachian State University. I am currently enrolled at Gardner Webb University to complete my full teaching license. After spending years as a Social Worker and then spending some time as a stay-at-home mom, I made a career change. I started as a Substitute Teacher with Gaston County Schools and for the past four years I have been a Teacher Assistant with Robinson Elementary, Go Royals. My amazing family along with the wonderful teachers and students that I worked with encouraged me to take the next step in teaching.

I have been with my husband for almost 22 years (high school sweethearts) and we have two girls ages 12 and 9. We have 2 dogs and 1 cat at home. Family is important to us. We are also involved in Girl Scouts, all 4 of us, and we are going on year seven with our troop that we started with our friends. I love all things Disney and finding those "ah-ha" moments with my students and Girl Scouts.
