Student Support Services
Students who have been issued an IEP through our Department of Exceptional Children will continue to receive services through their current EC teacher. We will be holding meetings the first couple of weeks of school to make sure that every IEP has been reviewed and modified to accommodate a virtual learning environment.
If your student receives support beyond instruction--OT, PT, Speech, VI, etc--we will work with families on a case by case basis to make sure that those services are provided either virtually or in a safe manner.
If you believe your student needs to be tested, please reach out and let us know.
Students who have been issued a Section 504 Plan for medical reasons will have their plan reviewed the first couple of weeks of school to make sure that every504 has been reviewed and modified to accommodate a virtual learning environment.
If your student needs 504 accommodation at any point during the school year, please reach out and let us know.
Students who have been receiving AIG enrichment support through their school will continue to receive those services, whether they were pull out services or whole cluster classes.
We are working with our AIG department to offer an enrichment website resource for students.
If you have a middle school student who is on an accelerated curriculum, they will continue to receive that curriculum to prepare them for high school courses they may take in middle school (Math I, World History, etc)
Students are typically tested for AIG during second and fifth grade. The Gaston County Schools AIG department will be monitoring that testing schedule.
Students who have been receiving English Learner support will continue to receive that support from their current teacher. Gaston Virtual Academy has an assigned EL support teacher to work with teachers and students to make sure all students are successful.
Our EL department will be working to test all students who are new to Gaston County Schools and meet the requirements for testing.
If you feel like your student needs to be tested please reach out and let us know.
