• Board of Education selects chairman and vice chairman during organizational meeting

    The Gaston County Board of Education conducted its organizational meeting on Monday, December 2 to select a chairman and vice chairman to serve for the next two years.

    Dallas Township representative Josh Crisp was chosen by the Board to serve as chairman, and at-large member Dot Cherry was chosen to serve as vice chairman.

    The organizational meeting took place following the 9:00 a.m. induction/swearing-in ceremony for elected officials at the Gaston County Courthouse.  Robbie Lovelace (Cherryville Township), Brent Moore (Crowders Mountain Township), Janna Smith (Gastonia Township), and Jeff Ramsey (at-large member) took the oath of office to serve on the Board of Education for the next four years (2024-2028).  

    Lovelace, Moore, and Ramsey were re-elected to the Board during the November 5 general election, and Smith was elected to the Board for the first time.  Board members are elected to four-year terms on a staggered basis every two years.  Members Josh Crisp, Dot Cherry, Lee Dedmon, Tod Kinlaw, and A.M. Stephens were not up for re-election in 2024. 

    The Board’s next meeting is Monday, December 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office.  The public is invited to attend the regular meeting, and the agenda will be posted on the Gaston County Schools website during the week prior to the meeting.
