• Gaston County Schools hosted a successful Mentor Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday, January 11 at First A.R.P. Church in Gastonia. More than 100 mentors and school mentor coordinators were able to attend the luncheon, which is our way of saying “thank you” for taking time to mentor a child.

The program featured remarks from Superintendent of Schools W. Jeffrey Booker. Two mentors - Matt Kuiken and Jeff Fawcett - also shared about their experience and why it is important to mentor a child.

We have more than 260 adults who are actively involved in our mentoring program, and we are still recruiting mentors to provide support and encouragement for students. Click here for more information about our mentoring program.

We would like to recognize and thank First A.R.P. Church, AIS Advanced Imaging Systems (Matt Solomon), Mann+Hummell and Furlong Financial (Bob Furlong) for helping to make the Mentor Appreciation Luncheon possible. It was a great program that shined the spotlight on the caring adults who make a difference in a child’s life through mentoring.
