We are excited to partner with the Gaston Arts Council to provide our classrooms with the Wolf Trap program! The Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts is a program which pairs teachers and local artists to integrate the performing arts (music, drama, dance, storytelling, and movement) into the regular curriculum. The artist visits the classroom twice per week, and using the teacher’s previously designed lesson, demonstrates how to infuse performance into the activity. In the beginning, the artist leads the lessons while the teacher participates, but eventually the teacher leads with the artist’s support. The program includes professional development for the teacher and concludes with a Family Engagement evening. We started the program in the 2016-2017 school year in ten classrooms with plans to expand to all classrooms over the next 3-5 years.
