Health Sciences Academy @ East Gaston High School
About the Academy
The Health Sciences Academy (in partnership with CaroMont Health and Gaston College) is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need for a solid foundation for success in the health services field.
Students have the opportunity to take classes in the following areas: nurse aide, pharmacy technician, animal medicine, health and fitness science, and dietary management. In addition to coursework, students build connections to careers in health science through work-based learning (internships), collaboration with healthcare leaders, and health industry certifications.
The program’s goal is to make it possible for students to explore careers in the healthcare field and participate in unique experiences as they move on to college or the workforce after graduation.
Students who will be in the ninth grade for the 2020-2021 school year may apply for this program. A lottery process will be used to determine the 150 ninth grade students who will attend (75 from inside the East Gaston attendance area and 75 from outside the East Gaston attendance area). Limited space is available for students who will be in the tenth grade for the 2020-2021 school year.
