About Highland School of Technology

  • Gaston County’s first magnet high school and a 2017 and 2023 National Blue Ribbon School award winner, Highland is a world-class school that prepares students for a world-class future.

Students complete courses in one of three academies: Health Sciences; Business, Legal, and Information Sciences; and Manufacturing/Engineering Technology and Graphics.  Students are challenged to think critically so they are ready for success beyond graduation in college, high-demand careers, and life.

Year after year, Highland receives recognition for having one of the highest graduation rates and highest student achievement rates in North Carolina.  In 2018 and 2019, the Charlotte Business Journal ranked Highland as first in the Charlotte region for “college and career readiness” among students.

Students who will be in the ninth grade for the 2024-2025 school year may apply for this program.  A lottery process will be used to determine the 145 students who will attend Highland.
